Written for the Query. Judged on What Happens After the Click

Copy that ranks but does not convert wastes the traffic. Copy that converts but never ranks never gets the chance. SEO copywriting is the discipline of doing both in one page – matching what the searcher actually wanted, then making the next step obvious.

WHAT SEO COPYWRITING IS

One page, two jobs, usually in tension

Search wants a page that answers the query thoroughly. Sales wants a page that moves someone toward a decision. Left to itself, the first produces an exhaustive article nobody acts on and the second produces a pitch that never ranks.

Resolving that is the actual skill. It usually means answering the query properly and early, earning the right to make a case, and then making that case where the reader is already convinced you understood their problem.

If you need the writing itself without the search strategy layered on top, that is content writing. If you need the technical and off-page work around it, that is SEO.

What we will not do

High-volume traffic that never buys anything is a cost, not a result. We would rather rank for the smaller query that pays.
SEARCH INTENT

Four intents, four different pages

Almost every underperforming page fails here first. The words are fine and the keyword is present, but the page answers a question the searcher was not asking. No amount of optimisation afterwards fixes a format mismatch.

Learning

INFORMATIONAL
"what is", "how does", "why do"
The page has to
Answer plainly and early, then earn depth. The commercial payoff is being remembered, not converting today.
Where it goes wrong
A sales page. The reader wanted an explanation and got a pitch, so they leave and Google notices.

Comparing

COMMERCIAL
"best", "vs", "alternatives to", "reviews"
The page has to
Name the trade-offs honestly, including where you are the wrong choice. Credibility here is what converts.
Where it goes wrong
A page claiming you win on every axis. Readers comparing options can tell, and they discount everything else you said.

Ready to act

TRANSACTIONAL
"near me", "pricing", "hire", "book"
The page has to
Answer the practical questions - cost, coverage, timeline - and make the next step take one click.
Where it goes wrong
Hiding pricing behind a form. The most common conversion leak on service sites, and it costs the enquiry.

Looking for you

NAVIGATIONAL
your brand name, product names, "login"
The page has to
Get out of the way. Send them where they were going in the fewest possible clicks.
Where it goes wrong
Treating brand traffic as an upsell opportunity. They already chose you - do not make them work for it.
WHAT WE OPTIMISE AND WRITE

Six page types, each with its own conversion problem

A homepage and a product description both need search visibility, but almost nothing else about them is the same. What follows is grouped by the job each page has to do, not by word count.

SEO Service Pages

usually the highest-value pages on the site

Landing Page Copy

one job, measured ruthlessly

SEO Website Copy

what a first-time visitor judges you on

SEO Blog and Clusters

where topical authority is built

Ecommerce Copy

volume plus a duplication risk

Optimising What Exists

usually the fastest return available

We almost always start with the last one. A page sitting at position eleven already has search approval – moving it up is far cheaper than earning that approval from nothing with a new page.

THE RESULT ITSELF

The listing is the advert, and most sites waste it

Ranking third is worth very little if the listing above it is more compelling. Titles and descriptions are the one piece of copy every searcher reads before deciding, and they are usually written last, by nobody in particular.

Google frequently rewrites descriptions and sometimes titles. That is not a reason to skip them – a well-written one is used far more often than a generic one, and it sets the expectation the page then has to meet.

THE OPTIMISATION ENGINE

Every element on the page, and what it is actually for

Each of these is either doing search work, conversion work, or both. Knowing which prevents the usual mistake of optimising a conversion element for search and wrecking it.

KEYWORD TO CONVERSION

Nine stages, and the last one restarts the first

This is a loop rather than a project. Stage nine tells you which assumptions from stage two were wrong, which is the part that compounds – and the part most engagements never reach because they end at publication.

01

Business Discovery

commercial priorities

What you sell, margin by service, and which enquiries you actually want more of. Search volume is meaningless without this.

02

Keyword Research

target set

Queries grouped by the job they represent, filtered for whether you can realistically compete and whether the traffic can buy.

03

Intent Analysis

format decided

Reading the current results for each query to see what format search is rewarding. Tells you what to build before you build it.

04

Keyword Mapping

the map

One primary query per page, variations grouped under it. Prevents two of your own pages competing for the same result.

05

Structure and Brief

brief approved

Sections, questions covered, angle, the case being made and where. Signed off before drafting.

06

Copywriting

first draft

The draft – answering the query early, building the argument, and making the next step obvious without shouting.

07

Editorial and On-Page

ready to publish

A second person edits, then title, meta, headings, internal links and any structured data are finalised together.

08

Publish and Index

indexed

Live, submitted, internal links from existing pages added so it is not orphaned on day one.

09

Measure and Revise

back to stage two

Position, click-through and what happened after the click. Pages on page two get another pass – that is where the fastest gains are.

WHAT THE REPORT LEADS WITH

Position is the least useful number here

Position without click-through tells you a listing is visible, not that it works. Click-through without what happened next tells you the listing works and the page might not.

So the report reads in that order – did it rank, did people click, did they act – and names the pages where the chain breaks rather than reporting an average that hides them.

WHAT CHANGES

Outcomes, described honestly

None of these arrive on a schedule. Search is competitive and partly outside anyone’s control – what we can commit to is doing the work that makes them likely.

More clicks at the same position

Rewriting titles and descriptions often lifts traffic without any movement in ranking at all. Usually the fastest win available.

Traffic that can actually buy

Targeting commercial queries rather than the highest-volume ones means fewer visits and more enquiries.

Visitors who stay past the first screen

Pages matched to intent hold attention. Search notices that, which is why intent work compounds into ranking.

Pages that stop competing with each other

Keyword mapping resolves cannibalisation – two mediocre pages become one that ranks.

Better-qualified enquiries

People who found a page answering their actual question arrive knowing what you do and what it costs.

Eligibility for snippets and AI answers

Answering directly and structuring clearly is what gets a page quoted – relevant to LLM optimization.

Returns that accumulate

A page that ranks keeps earning without further spend. Paid traffic stops the day the budget does.

You can see what is failing

Reporting that names underperforming pages is what makes the next round better. Averages hide exactly the pages worth fixing.

WHY RIGHT ADVERTISE

We will tell you which queries not to chase

The easiest way to look busy in SEO is to target every query with volume. The useful thing is to say which ones you cannot realistically win, which ones bring traffic that never buys, and which small ones are worth more than all of them.

Commercial value before search volume

We start from what a query is worth to your business, not what a tool says it is worth in the abstract. Small high-intent queries usually win.

We read the results before writing

What currently ranks tells you the format search is rewarding. Ignoring that and writing what you assumed is the most common way a page fails.

One page per intent, mapped

Every target query is assigned to exactly one page. It prevents you competing with yourself and makes reporting mean something.

A writer and an editor on every page

The person who wrote it cannot see what is missing from it. A second reader catches the gap and usually shortens the page.

Optimising existing pages first

A page at position eleven has already earned search approval. Improving it beats starting a new page from zero, nearly every time.

No promised positions

Nobody controls the algorithm or the competition. We commit to the work and report the outcome, including where it did not move.

INDUSTRIES

What differs by sector is the search behaviour

The copywriting principles hold everywhere. What changes is how people search, how long they take to decide, and what a page is legally allowed to claim.

SaaS

Long comparison-heavy journeys. Alternative and versus pages often outperform the product pages themselves.

Ecommerce

Category pages carry the search weight. Duplication across products is the recurring technical constraint.

Healthcare

Claims need clinical backing and search applies extra scrutiny. Authorship and sourcing matter more here than anywhere.

Finance

Regulated wording and mandatory disclosures. Persuasion has to work inside a narrow permitted vocabulary.

Technology

Specialist searchers using precise terminology. Simplifying the language loses the audience you wanted.

Real Estate

Heavily local and seasonal. Area pages need genuine local knowledge - see local SEO.

Education

Long research periods and repeat visits. Course pages need to answer cost and outcome questions plainly.

Hospitality

Search is dominated by aggregators. Direct booking copy has to justify skipping them.

Manufacturing

Low-volume, high-value queries. One specification page can be worth more than a year of blog traffic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything businesses ask us before starting SEO copywriting.

What is SEO copywriting?

Writing pages that answer a specific search query well enough to rank, and make a persuasive enough case to convert the reader who arrives. The two goals pull against each other, and managing that tension is the whole discipline.

Content writing produces well-researched material for an audience. SEO copywriting starts from a query, a competitive assessment of what already ranks for it, and a commercial goal – the page is built backwards from those. See content writing for the former.

It can, and often does, but nobody can promise a position. What we control is intent match, structure, depth and the on-page elements. Competition, site authority and technical health all affect the outcome too – which is why this works best alongside technical and off-page SEO.

We start from your margins rather than a volume list – which services you want more of, and what they are worth. Then we group queries by intent, read what currently ranks for each, and drop anything you realistically cannot compete for or that brings traffic which cannot buy.

Yes, and usually first. A page already ranking on page two has search approval that a new page has to earn from scratch. Rewriting titles alone often lifts clicks with no ranking movement at all.

Two or more of your own pages targeting the same query, so search cannot decide which to show and often ranks neither well. Keyword mapping fixes it – one primary query per page, sometimes by merging pages that should always have been one.

Position, click-through rate, engaged sessions, and enquiries – read in that order. Ranking without clicks is a title problem, clicks without action is a page problem, and averages across a site hide both.

Movement on existing pages can appear within weeks. New pages for competitive queries usually take three to six months to settle, sometimes longer. Anyone offering a firm timeline is guessing at things they do not control.

The same work helps – answering directly, structuring clearly and sourcing claims is what gets a page cited in generated answers. Where that needs specific attention we cover it under LLM optimization.

We start from commercial value rather than search volume, we read the current results before writing anything, every page gets a writer and a separate editor, and we tell you which queries are not worth chasing. We do not promise positions.

Rank for the queries that pay.

Send us your site and the terms that matter to the business. We will map which pages target what, show you where the clicks are being lost, and rewrite a title and description so you can see the difference before committing to anything. Free, findings yours either way.

The businesses that win aren’t just found – they’re found first. We make that happen, from local search to your entire digital presence.
